New Campaign
Artists & Athletes for Reparations, in the tradition of Harry Belafonte and Arthur Ashe’s 1983 campaign, “Artists and Athletes against Apartheid,” is resurrecting the concept of a campaign to bring prominent visibility to an issue of great import – this time being recognition of the issue of reparations as a long overdue national reckoning of race in America.

I am Nana Malaya Rucker, the Cultural Arts and Celebrity Ambassador for the Reparation Education Project (REP). REP is a non-profit organization that serves as a trusted expert resource on the issue of reparations to media, educators, non-profits, businesses, federal and city governments, and influencers, for People of African Descent in the USA, Caribbean and abroad.
For over 400 years Africans were forced to labor for free in the US and abroad. REPARATIONS IS AN ISSUE whose time has come!
In 1983 Harry Belafonte and Arthur Ashe started a campaign called “Artists and Athletes against Apartheid.” This was a campaign that created a lot of momentum for the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and led to the release of Nelson Mandela from prison.
I’m a Veteran Performing Artist, Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Actress and Storyteller. Some of you know me as a “Celebrity Mom,” mother of Lamman Rucker, Star Actor of Oprah Winfrey’s Network “Greenleaf” and Tyler Perry’s film, “Why Did I Get Married” and television series “Meet the Browns.” Our Family has a legacy of being artists, educators, and activists.
Now, a new National Campaign is being implemented called “ARTISTS AND ATHLETES FOR REPARATIONS” (AAR), bringing visibility to an issue long overdue.
